Enhanced MRI Services Now Available at Potomac Valley Hospital

WVU Medicine Potomac Valley Hospital is excited to bring enhanced MRI services to the residents of Mineral County and the surrounding area. In March, patients will benefit from the addition of the Siemens Aera MRI system, seven days a week, providing increased patient comfort, enhanced patient experience, and improved overall diagnostic services to traditional MRI testing.

One of the greatest benefits of the new MRI system is its focus on providing exceptional patient comfort during testing. Through the new system, patients can personalize their MRI experience, by selecting sound and lighting to fit their mood including adjustments to skylights, murals and integrated music systems. Advanced noise-reducing technology aims to decrease sound levels to that of a normal environment. Overall, this focus on patient experience leads to a more positive testing setting, decreasing adverse symptoms such as claustrophobia.

Physicians can be confident in the overall diagnostic ability of the new MRI system and keep referrals closer to home, limiting the need for travel to farther away facilities. The higher imaging capabilities help deliver consistently sharper images than conventional MRI systems and aid physicians capabilities of making clearer diagnoses. The new system boasts a 550 pound weight limit, allowing tests to be completed that previously would have been diverted to another facility.

“Potomac Valley Hospital has found itself in a constant state of growth, in an effort to help address the needs of the community in which we serve. One of the greatest needs we have been able to address is the need for a permanent MRI system at our hospital. Physicians and patients will now have greater access to MRI testing, every day of the week. We are excited to be growing and expanding services and plan to continue addressing the needs of the community,” says Mark Boucot, president and CEO of Potomac Valley Hospital.
